Dr. Michael Christopher Langton Cox. Born November 1925, died May 2016
Michael Cox (35-39) had the pleasure of singing at the 1937 Coronation. When his voice changed in 1939 he went to Merchant Taylors School,
He started studying Law but switched to Medicine going to Kings College completing his first Medical Bachelor Degree. In 1944 he enlisted in the Royal West Kent Regiment declining the Medical Corps preferring the life as an infantryman; and posted to Preston in the Royal Artillery. He went on to Sandhurst, commissioned in December and joined the Black Watch. Later as a Military Police Major in the Middle East he was an observer (spy). One mission during the UN formation of the two state partition, found himself under fire from a sniper who fortunately missed.
Back in England he completed his medical training. In his career as a doctor he became an anaesthetist, Medical Industry Physician, and an Associate Professor while maintaining a close and active association with the Royal Military Police. In 2000 he was diagnosed with Laryngeal cancer, undergoing surgery and losing his voice box; as well as becoming a guinea pig for abdominal aneurism. He maintained his association with all the organisations he belonged to, including being treasurer to the Ashford Laryngectomy Club.
Michael was a great friend over the years and a delightful host .
